Scattered showers were forecast for the Pikes Peak Region, Pueblo County and the eastern plains on Thursday evening, according to KOAA News5. Overnight lows across most of southern Colorado were expected to settle in the 40s and 50s.
Farther west, conditions looked considerably more hazardous. The San Juan Mountains and the southwestern corner of the state were set to keep getting heavy rainfall, with flooding and mudslide risks. Flood watches, severe thunderstorm watches and a handful of flood warnings were in effect across that part of Colorado.
In Colorado Springs, Friday is expected to bring a low of 51 and a high of 73, again warmer than average. A few showers are possible early in the morning, followed by a drier afternoon with some sunshine. Winds will increase as a cold front moves through ahead of the weekend.
Pueblo should see a low of 55 and a high of 81, with on-and-off showers through the day and more in the evening. Canon City is forecast to reach 75 after a low of 54, with a lull in the moisture by Friday afternoon. That pause is expected to be short, as the front and a new push of moisture arrive Friday night and carry into the weekend.
Woodland Park, with a forecast low of 43 and high of 56, will remain above seasonal averages on Friday with intermittent showers. The weekend is expected to turn cooler, bringing cold rain and possibly some snow. On the plains, where Friday's low is 60 and the high 83, a few stray showers are possible. Depending on how conditions develop, the plains could pick up decent rainfall over the weekend as temperatures fall and strong wind sets in.
In the mountains, with a low of 41 and high of 59, heavy rain and flood risk are expected to persist across the San Juans and western slope into Friday and through the weekend. Snow levels will likely drop once the cold front passes.
The extended outlook calls for winds to strengthen Friday and through the weekend, with gusts of 40 to 45 mph across the area. A cold front is expected to cross Colorado early Saturday, lowering temperatures by 10 to 15 degrees to below average. Tropical moisture will shift east, delivering more precipitation to southern Colorado.
Total accumulations across the region could range from 0.10 inches to 0.75 inches. Forecasters expect next week to dry out, with temperatures returning to more seasonal levels.
